It all started with Olle, our energetic male Labrador. If you have a Lab, you know the struggle: they are enthusiastic and can be incredibly strong. I spent hours searching for a leash that was truly "adventure-proof," but everything felt flimsy or lacked character.
That’s when it clicked. As a climber, I knew that climbing ropes have a strictly limited lifespan for safety reasons. Once they’ve served their time on the mountain, they are retired—but they are still incredibly strong, durable, and vibrant.
I gathered my first retired ropes, started crafting at my kitchen table, and realized: what’s no longer safe for a human climber is more than strong enough for even the toughest pup. Today, I turn high-quality climbing rope into stylish, indestructible gear for your dogs. Sustainable, handmade, and Olle-approved!

Our dog leashes are made from climbing rope that is no longer suitable for climbing. Every climbing rope has a safety expiry date, after which the rope is no longer reliable for climbing. Although the rope may still look strong, it is not safe enough to support a person's weight. This also applies to the carabiner and the stitching. Therefore Fjellkin is not liable for any injuries or worse if the leads are used for anything else than walking your dog.
